Gear I Use for Cold Rides 👇 This is the riding gear and layering system I use when it dips below 60°F, and it can keep me warm into the low 40°F range. If I’m on a road trip and temps are going to be 45°F or colder, I definitely throw on the heated gear from head to toe for those multi-hour rides! ⚡️🔥 🛍️ You can shop all of my riding gear through @jpcycles! 👉 Layer one: Base Layers Base layers should be closest to your skin and help retain your body heat. They usually include your socks, a pant, and long sleeve top. I also include an insulative neck gaiter in this step so that it’s all tucked in at the end! I use @smartwool and Axial Wind Block base layers from @jpcycles. 👉 Layer two: Mid-Layers This layer is meant to insulate you! Some jackets and pants come with removable thermal liners, but you may want more insulation. I prefer down or synthetic mid-layers but some people are okay with fleece. It’s extra helpful if this layer has some wind blocking properties. Look for jackets that do NOT have a hood attached so that you can keep your neck mobile. I use the @jpcycles Axial Insulative Mid Layer Jacket! 🔥 If it’s cold enough for heated gear, I use 12V @gerbing_heated_clothing 👉 Outer Layers: Riding Gear It’s helpful if your riding gear is insulative, windproof and waterproof, but you can always carry rain gear with you! Additionally, you want to keep your skin COVERED so that wind chill stays off your body!
